Description
This elegant necklace features alternating beads of blue and clear glass. The blue beads are smooth and circular, showing subtle graduation in size towards the bottom of the necklace. A close view of the beads reveals that they are softly patterned with delicate bands in a darker blue shade. They also have a small, silvertone metal bead cap (with fluted detail) at either end. The clear glass beads provide an effective contrast to the opaque blue beads, and their glittering finish also complements the smooth sheen of the latter. We love their crystal-like clarity and the eyecatching sparkle of their faceted edges. A flatter-shaped, small clear bead adds a finishing touch at either end. The beads are joined together via short lengths of silvertone metal chain, and the necklace has a spring-ring clasp.

Very Good. The blue beads within this attractive necklace have survived in excellent condition, as they retain a smooth and softly gleaming appearance - we can see very little sign of age or wear, even when they are viewed with a magnifier. The clear glass beads have also survived well, displaying a clean and shimmering appearance. Some of the faceted edges have tiny nicks to the glass, but these require a magnifier to be seen. The most evident sign of the necklace's age appears as discolouration to the two beads immediately next to the clasp; the metal which runs through these beads has developed a greenish patina over the years (please see photo). Elsewhere, the metal clasp and the short lengths of chain retain a soft silvertone sheen, whilst the metal bead caps have darkened a little with age. We notice the spring-ring clasp can stick slightly on closing, and we would therefore advise pushing it fully shut manually (rather than relying on it to do this automatically). We think this is a necklace with refined style and versatile appeal, which can be worn to impressive effect during the daytime or evening.
